Packing List

Bhutan Bird Quest’s packing list is intended to be used as a basic guideline to assist packing for a trip to Bhutan. Guests are welcome to decide their own packing list. As a mark of respect for the local culture, guests are requested to pack at least one set of formal clothing for situations where they may be required to enter temples or government establishments. For every day wear, please pack casual pants, long shorts and long skirts. Please avoid packing tank-tops or revealing clothing.

The Essentials:

  • Binoculars
  • Camera and film
  • Sunglasses/Sunscreen
  • Headlamp/flashlight
  • Personal Blister kit + toiletries
  • Biodegradable Soap
  • Water bottle (1 litre)
  • Day Pack (to carry a jacket, camera and water bottle)
  • Hiking Boots or Sturdy hiking shoes
  • Gaiters (optional)
  • Socks (liner and outers)
  • Base layer top/bottoms
  • Mid-weight Fleece top/bottoms
  • Down or synthetic insulated top
  • Long-sleeved shirt (for sun protection)
  • Underwear
  • Rainwear or outer shell top/bottoms
  • Short-sleeved shirt
  • Sun Shirt
  • Insulating hat
  • Pants (x3)
  • Shorts *must be long/to the top of the knees*
  • Gloves or mitts
  • Sun hat

Tented Camping Gear:

  • Sleeping bag (rating dependant on trip)
  • Sleeping pad (Thermarest or equivalent)
  • Duffle Bag (for all belongings)
  • Garbage bags – unavailable in Bhutan (water proof belongings)

Urban Gear / Restaurant Outing:

  • Smart Casual Pant or Long Skirt (Woman)
  • Button Shirt or Blouse
  • Casual Shoes

Luxury Items:

  • Altimeter / GPS
  • Notebook and pencil
  • Deck of cards
  • Sandals (camp shoes)
  • Paperback book
  • Watch or alarm clock
  • Thermos
  • Umbrella
